Police: Woman Struck by Car, Killed on Leesburg Pike

Woman, 61, was crossing the road at 9:45 p.m. at Row Street. She died after she was transported to a hospital.

A woman died Thursday night after she was struck by a car while crossing Leesburg Pike in the Bailey’s Crossroads area, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police responded to a report of a woman struck while crossing Leesburg Pike near Row Street at around 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

The pedestrian, Irma Taracena, 61, of Munson Hill Road in Falls Church, was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Taracena was reportedly crossing Leesburg Pike in an area that was not well lit and was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a 1997 Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Camry did not initially stop at the scene but was quickly located by nearby officers at Patrick Henry Drive, as he was in the process of driving back to the crash scene. The driver, Sukhwinder Singh Jhuj, 67, of Manassas Park was charged with failure to render aid.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash.
