FALLS CHURCH, VA—If you're shopping for holiday gifts, consider shopping at some of Falls Church's fine local businesses. Consumers are encouraged to shop local on Small Business Saturday, which falls on Nov. 25 this year.

American Express launched Small Business Saturday to encourage shoppers to support small businesses hurting from the recession. Since then, Small Business Saturday has turned into an annual event featuring businesses across the country.
In 2016, shoppers spent an estimated $15.4 billion at small, independent business on Small Business Saturday, according to American Express.
