Sobriety Checkpoint Nabs 16-Year Old Phony Cop

Police say teen had outfitted his car with law enforcement markings and equipment.

Fairfax County Police held a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night in the McLean Police District and wound up catching a 16-year-old impersonating the police.

The teen police impersonator was found out Saturday night at the sobriety checkpoint at Arlington Boulevard and Annandale Road in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.

While participating in a DWI checkpoint, officers stopped a vehicle that had law enforcement markings and equipment on it, police said.

An investigation determined the driver, a 16-year-old boy, used the car and other property located inside the vehicle to present himself as a law enforcement officer to acquaintances, according to FCPD.

The boy and his passenger, another teenaged boy, were released to their parents and the illegal law enforcement markings were removed, police said. No charges are pending.
