Murder Charge Filed In Fatal Stabbing In Bailey's Crossroads Apartment

Fairfax County police released the identity of the suspect in Sunday's fatal stabbing inside Bailey's Crossroads, authorities say.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — Fairfax County police identified 38-year-old Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy of an undetermined address as the suspect in Sunday night's fatal stabbing in Bailey's Crossroads, authorities say.

Investigators were quickly able to identify Chavarria Muy as the suspect. Both he and the victim were known to each other, according to police.

With the help of Fairfax 1 helicopter, officers located Chavarria in a vehicle in the 11000 block of James Swart Circle in Fairfax City and took him into custody without incident, police say.

Chavarria Muy was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was charged with second-degree murder, according to police. He was then held without bond.

Chavarria Muy was arraigned Monday morning in Fairfax County General District Court and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 2 p.m. on June 17, according to court records.

Under the Code of Virginia, anyone convicted of second-degree murder faces a potential sentence of five to 40 years in prison.

Capt. Chris Cosgriff, commander of the Fairfax County Police Department's Public Affairs Bureau, said officers were dispatched just before 9 p.m. to the 6000 block of Bellevue Drive for reports of a stabbing. Inside an apartment, officers found a man suffering from trauma to the upper body.

Officers gave aid to the man before he was taken to a local hospital, according to Cosgriff. The victim was later pronounced dead, and the case is being investigated as a homicide. The victim's identity has not been released.
