Street Sweeping Set For Mid-August In Falls Church
The city asks residents to move their cars during the specified times for their areas.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Street sweeping is scheduled in the City of Falls Church next week. Residents should move their cars from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during their specified days on Aug. 13-17.
The following schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather:
- Monday, Aug. 13 and Tuesday, Aug. 14: residential areas south of Broad Street
- Thursday, Aug. 16 and Friday, Aug. 17: residential areas north of Broad Street
- Commercial areas and municipal parking areas will undergo sweeping in the evening and overnight
The city's contractor Quiet Sweep uses regenerative sweepers, which utilizes forced air to create a swirling effect inside the sweeping head and pressure to suck small and large debris off the street. Parked vehicles can make the process less effective since most debris collects in gutter pans.

The city asks residents to help out by sweeping the gutter pans in front of homes regularly when debris like rocks, leaves, trash, large sticks and sediment accumulates. This debris should be put in the trash, not with yard waste.
The city typically conducts five sweep cycles per year in the warmer months. Street sweeping helps eliminate more than 200 tons of debris annually from local waterways through 900 drain openings, according to the city. Each street sweeping cycle collects between 40 and 50 tons of debris from city streets. Materials collected can include heavy metals, trash and sediment.
