Suspect Arrested In Homicide At Falls Church's Eden Center

The victim was a security at the Diva Lounge and was shot in the early hours of Sept. 11.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A suspect has been arrested in the Sept. 11 fatal shooting at the Eden Center, according to Falls Church Police. This was the city's first homicide of the year.

Elser Galeano Herrera, 28, was arrested at his sister's home in Lucedale, Mississippi on Thursday. He will be transported to Virginia.

Police responded to the shooting around 12:05 a.m. on Sept. 11 at the Diva Lounge nightclub at 6753 Wilson Boulevard. Police and medic units found a man dead on the scene with a gunshot wound. Witnesses told police the suspect shot the suspect before fleeing on foot.

The victim was identified as Geovanny Alexander Mejia Castro, a security guard at the nightclub. Detectives determined the homicide was in retaliation for an earlier assault at the night club that did not involve Castro.

"The death of Mr. Castro is tragic," said Police Chief Mary Gavin. "I'm proud of the swift and meticulous investigation that lead to the identification and location of the suspect."

Agencies that helped police track and arrest the suspect included the Falls Church Sheriff's Office, the Fairfax County Gang Unit, the FBI Gang Task Force, the U.S. Marshal Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshal Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the George County Sheriff’s Department.
