These Virginia Hospitals Honored For Patient Safety, Experience

VIRGINIA — A total of 29 Virginia hospitals were recognized by Healthgrades as excelling in at least one of two award categories. The 2019 awards recognized hospitals for patient safety and patient experience. No Washington, D.C., hospitals were honored in either category.

In a press release, Healthgrades said the awards “recognize the hospitals around the country that make patient safety a top priority and provide an outstanding patient experience.” Overall, 460 hospitals in the United States achieved the Healthgrades “Patient Safety Excellence Award” and 434 hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award.”

In Virginia, 20 hospitals achieved the patient safety award and nine hospitals achieved the patient experience award.

Below are the Virginia hospitals that achieved the “Patient Safety Excellence Award”:

• Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg
• Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville
• Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Richmond, including: Parham Doctors' Hospital in Richmond and Retreat Doctors' Hospital in Richmond
• Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax
• Inova Loudoun Hospital, Leesburg
• LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor
• LewisGale Hospital - Montgomery, Blacksburg
• LewisGale Hospital - Pulaski, Pulaski
• Lewisgale Medical Center, Salem
• Mountain States Health Alliance - Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon
• Reston Hospital Center, Reston
• Sentara Careplex Hospital, Hampton
• Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk
• Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk
• Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Virginia Beach
• Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg
• Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Fredericksburg
• VCU Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill

And these Virginia hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award”:

Healthgrades says the hospitals that achieved the patient safety award are among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute hospitals that report patient safety data. By Healthgrades’ estimate, nearly 128,000 patient safety incidents could have been avoided if all hospitals performed similarly to the ones recognized for safety.
