Thieves Target Catalytic Converter On Toyota Prius In Falls Church

Another Toyota Prius owner fell victim to thieves in the City of Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Another Toyota Prius owner fell victim to thieves in the City of Falls Church.

It was the Toyota Prius’ catalytic converter, not the car itself, that the thieves succeeded in stealing, according to the Falls Church Police Department.

Between 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6 and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, thieves removed and stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked on Great Falls Street, according to police.

In recent years, police have seen a significant increase in the theft of catalytic converters.

Toyota Prius cars continue to be targeted by thieves who are hoping to make money off the metal used to make the catalytic converters. The thieves often sell the stolen catalytic converter to scrapyards for anywhere from $50 to $300.
