Tree Removal Prompts Road Closure At Falls Church Park

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Lincoln Park and a surrounding road will be closed during a tree removal Thursday, Aug. 30 in Falls Church.

The city announced a pin oak tree will be removed. Great Falls Street between Lincoln Avenue and Dorchester Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A crane and other work vehicles will be set up on Great Falls Street. Lincoln Park will not be open during that time frame.

"We are very sad that this tree needs to be removed," said Kate Reich, the arborist for the city. "We have seen a rapid decline in the tree's health since we last pruned the dead wood from it in 2016."

The city found that the tree has some dead limbs directly above the playground, presenting a safety risk to park visitors.
