West Falls Church Development Comprehensive Agreement Approved
Approval of the special exception entitlement application has been pushed to July.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Falls Church City Council unanimously approved a comprehensive agreement with developers for the future West Falls Church development on Monday, May 13. The agreement is with Falls Church Gateway Partners, comprised of EYA, PN Hoffman, and Regency Centers.
The council deferred a vote until July 8 on the special exception entitlement application, which sets building heights, permitted uses, and style layouts. The application was originally submitted in February, but an updated application went to the city on April 22. The item will have a public hearing.
The new application can be viewed online under the heading "Special Exception Entitlement Application (2nd Submission - April 22, 2019)."

The development will be on an approximately 10-acre site of the current George Mason High School. The city is coordinating with Falls Church City Public Schools on the new George Mason High School construction, which will begin this summer. Work on the West Falls Church development will begin once the new high school construction is done in 2021.
The West Falls Church development will have retail, office space, residences, a hotel, and civic spaces. The private development is intended to offset some costs of the new high school. A referendum for $120 million in bonds to finance the new high school was approved by voters in 2017.
