What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2021 In Falls Church

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Christmas falls on a Saturday in 2021, so there will be various closings on the days before. That means a shortened work week for many, and many students are on winter break the entire week.

Some services are closed for Christmas Eve (Friday, Dec. 24). Other closures will begin on Thursday, Dec. 23 and continue through the weekend. Residents should prepare for additional closures the following week around New Year's Eve on Friday, Dec. 31.

The Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department's Santamobile is traveling through neighborhoods in Falls Church, along with parts of Arlington and Fairfax counties, through Thursday, Dec. 23.

Below are the closures to know around Christmas in Falls Church.

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on Dec. 23 and 24.

Fairfax County government offices: County government offices will close at noon on Dec. 23 and be closed on Dec. 24.

Courts: Arlington County courts are closed on Dec. 24. The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 23 and 24.

Falls Church City Public Schools: The school district will be closed for winter break from Monday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 31.

Fairfax County Public Schools: The school district will be closed for winter break from Monday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 31.

Community Centers: The Falls Church Community Center is closed on Dec. 23 and 24.

Virginia DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed Dec. 23 to 25.

Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 24 and 25, Fairfax Connector will run Saturday service. Routes on a Saturday schedule will include 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 424, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 703, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library is closed Dec. 23 to Dec. 26. All Fairfax County Library branches will be open 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 23 and closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Metro: Metrorail operates on a weekday schedule and Metrobus operates on a Saturday schedule on Dec. 24. Metrorail and Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables for more information.

Post offices: Some locations may have limited or extended hours on Dec. 24. Check with your local post office. All post offices are closed on Dec. 25.

Trash and recycling collection: City of Falls Church collections happen on Wednesdays. Private collection customers should check schedules with their hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
