FALLS CHURCH, VA — As residents get ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks, barbecues and travel, various closures and schedule changes are planned for services around Falls Church.

The Independence Day holiday falls on Monday, July 4, which means some services will be closed for a three-day weekend. City of Falls Church and Fairfax County government offices will be closed on July 4, and other services will have schedule changes.

Falls Church won't have fireworks but rather a scavenger hunt and performance by the Quantico Marine Corps Band on July 3 and reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. Other nearby fireworks events are planned during the holiday.

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on Monday, July 4

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Monday, July 4

Fairfax County Public Schools: Students are on summer break, but July 4 is a holiday for all FCPS staff.

Community centers: Falls Church Community Center is closed on July 4. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services community centers are closed July 2 through July 4. Fastran will not operate on July 4.

Courts: The Fairfax and Arlington County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed July 4.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia will be closed July 4.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Saturday service on July 4.

Libraries: On July 4, Mary Riley Styles Public Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Metro: Metro will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on July 4. Metro has closed five Orange Line stations between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton through Labor Day. Additional closures are planned during the summer on the Blue Line between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road. Check back for detailed weekend Metrorail information here.

Post offices: Closed on July 4.

Recreation centers: All Fairfax County rec centers are open regular hours to 4 p.m. on July 4, except George Washington Rec Center, which is closed.

Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church collections will move to Thursday, July 7 during the week of July 4. For county collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on July 4. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are closed on July 4.
