What's Open, Closed For Indigenous Peoples' Day 2022 In Falls Church
Indigenous Peoples' Day, which falls on the federal Columbus Day holiday, will result in openings and closings in Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — This upcoming Monday, the City of Falls Church will recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day, resulting in various closures and schedule changes.
While Columbus Day remains a federal holiday, the City of Falls Church marks the day as Indigenous Peoples' Day honoring Native Americans. To celebrate the holiday, there will be an Indigenous Peoples' Day Coat Drive from Oct. 11 to 23. The coat drive will benefit Oglala-Lakota residents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota through Re-Member.org.
Residents may donate new or gently used hooded winter coats, new socks (all sizes), baby blankets, hoodies, gently used toddlers' and kids' winter clothes, bars of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving products, feminine care, and diapers sizes 4, 5 or 6. Donation boxes will be located at City Hall, Library, and the Community Center.

Some city services will be closed for the holiday. Fairfax County government is not closed after removing the Columbus Day holiday from its holiday calendar and adding Juneteenth and Election Day.

City of Falls Church government offices: City Hall and all government offices (including the Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer's Office, and Elections Office) will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10. City Council will instead meet Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers
Fairfax County government offices: Open on Oct. 10.
Falls Church City Public Schools: No student holiday.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a student holiday and a professional work day for staff.
Community Center: The Falls Church Community Center will be open for scheduled camps and classes from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Courts: Courts are closed on Oct. 10.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have weekday holiday service. All routes will operate regular weekday service except: Routes 231, 232, 335, 351, 393, 394, 395, 396, 432, 461, 494, 495, 556, 585, 599, 624, 634, 697, 698, 699, 715, 722, 724 834, 835 and 985.
Libraries. Mary Riley Styles Public Library will be closed on Oct. 10. There is no schedule change for Fairfax County Public Library.
Metro: Six Metro Yellow and Blue Line stations south of Reagan National Airport remain closed through Nov. 5 with free shuttle buses continuing as an alternative. On Monday, Oct. 10, Metrorail will operate on a Saturday holiday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. For more information on schedules, visit www.wmata.com.
Post offices: Closed on Oct. 10.
Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church collections happen on Wednesdays. Trash, recycling, yard waste and special collections happen on Oct. 10 for county collection customers. Check with private collectors for holiday service changes. The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are open for regular hours on Oct. 10.
Voting: The elections office at City Hall will be closed, and there will be no in-person early voting on Oct. 10.
