What's Open, Closed On Thanksgiving In Falls Church (ICYMI)

From Falls Church City Hall to local schools, a look at holiday closings, plus what's open on Thanksgiving.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Many services in Falls Church and Fairfax County are closed Thanksgiving as families gather to have dinner. Some will remain closed on Black Friday, including government offices, libraries and schools.

Other services such as public transportation will be open, although on a different schedule.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.

City of Falls Church and Fairfax County Offices: Closed Thursday and Friday

Schools and Administrative Offices: Falls Church City Public Schools closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Fairfax County Public Schools closed Thursday and Friday, and students are released two hours early on Wednesday.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County will be closed Thursday and Friday, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The courts will close at noon Wednesday.

Community Centers: Falls Church Community Center is closed Thursday and Friday. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule Thursday and a holiday weekday schedule Friday. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on Thursday and Friday.

Libraries: Closed Thursday and Friday.

Metrorail: Saturday schedule. Information available at www.wmata.com

Metrobus: Information available at www.wmata.com

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Fairfax County Parks: Closed Thursday. On Friday Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows Nature Centers are open noon-5 p.m. Riverbend Park Visitor Center will be open noon-5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and the Visitor Center from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Green Spring Gardens ' Horticultural Center will be open noon-4:30 p.m. and the Historic House will be closed.

Fairfax County Recreation Centers: All rec centers except George Washington RECenter are open regular hours until noon on Thursday and open regular hours on Friday.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will be closed Thursday and open Friday.

Trash Pickup: Contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
