What's Open, Closed For Veterans Day 2020 In Falls Church
Veterans Day falls on Wednesday. Here are the schedule changes to know and ceremony information in Falls Church.
FALLS CHURCH, VA — Veterans Day, a federal holiday to honor those who have served in the military, will mean some schedule changes around McLean. City of Falls Church and Fairfax County government offices will be closed, and other services may be affected.
There will be various ways to celebrate veterans. A pre-recorded Veterans Day Ceremony will air starting at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 on Falls Church Community Television Channels (Cox Channel 11, RCN Channel 2, & Verizon Channel 35) and YouTube. The Veterans Day Ceremony will feature remarks by the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council and Mayor David P. Tarter, with musical performances by the Falls Church Concert Band.
Nov. 11 also marks the opening of the National Museum of the Army at Fort Belvoir. The museum, focused on the 244-year history of the U.S. Army, is free but requires timed entry tickets. It is located at 1775 Liberty Drive on a publicly accessible area of Fort Belvoir.

At Arlington National Cemetery, a Veterans Day observance will be livestreamed starting at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 is also a fee-free day at national parks, including Great Falls Park, and the Fairfax County Park Authority will offer servicemembers and their immediate families free admission to recreation centers. At George Washington's Mount Vernon, active duty, former or retired military personnel receive free admission on Nov. 11.

City of Falls Church government offices/City Hall: Closed on Nov. 11.
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 11. See what services are available online.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Students have a two-hour early release on Nov. 11.
State offices: Arlington and Fairfax County courts as well as Virginia DMV customer service centers are closed on Nov. 11.
Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is available by appointment only.
Community centers: The Falls Church Community Center remains closed to the public. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services community centers are operating by reservation only.
Fairfax Connector: The bus service will operate holiday weekday service on Nov. 11. All routes will operate regular weekday service, except Routes 231, 232, 335, 393, 394, 395, 396, 422, 432, 461, 494, 495, 556, 585, 599, 624, 634, 697, 698, 699, 722, 724 and 985, which will not operate. Route 980 will run every 12 to 15 minutes instead of every six to eight minutes.
Libraries: On Nov. 11, Mary Riley Styles Public Library and Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed.
Metro: Metro trains will run on a Saturday schedule from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Buses will run on a Saturday schedule. See schedules at www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables.
Post offices: Veterans Day is observed as a holiday at the U.S. Postal Service.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County RECenters are open regular hours and offer free admission to servicemembers on Nov. 11.
Trash and recycling collection: City of Falls Church trash and recycling curbside collection will be picked up normally on Nov. 11. Curbside compost collection will be picked up on Nov. 14. There is no change for Fairfax County collection customers on Nov. 11, but the administrative office will be closed. Check with private collectors for holiday schedules.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will be open on Nov. 11.
