Woman Heading To Work Strangled In Merrifield

Police say the same suspect attempted to carjack another person.

Police have arrested a man that assaulted two people heading to work during the morning rush hour in the Merrifield area Friday.

The first victim was waiting for her ride to work at Arlington Boulevard and Gallows Road when the man attacked her, police say. Around 7:30 a.m., the man approached the woman, grabbed her by the neck and assaulted her.

The second victim was attacked in his car during the same encounter. Police say the suspect attempted to carjack the driver and assaulted him. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver had minor injuries.

Gregory Sherrod, 53, was arrested and charged with carjacking, abduction, strangulation and assault. There is no mugshot available.
