Evan Matz, owner of World of Beer Arlington, has come up with a way to boost lunch revenue.
The tavern that’s best known for after-work socializing and live music on weekends is now offering free meeting space along with its teleconferencing platform so companies can conduct online training or other web-based events for its employees.
"We are a great place for off-site meetings," said Matz, owner of World of Beer at 901 North Glebe Road in Ballston. "With little notice, CEOs and managers can reserve a separate room equipped with our IP-based video and wall monitor systems. It’s a perfect place to hold working lunches."

The tavern, which stocks more than 500 kinds of craft beer from--you guessed it, around the world--also carries a full lunch menu to liven up business meetings with great food.
Matz, who is opening a second location in Reston Town Center in May, expanded the Ballston lunch menu to include fresh fish and hamburgers. The Ballston restaurant has seating for 130 inside the restaurant and 104 in its sidewalk café.

"When we opened in August 2012, we started with German pretzels, black and tan onion rings, and other traditional tavern fare," Matz said. "I wanted to offer more, so I expanded our lunch menu to include bratwurst sliders, chipotle chicken sandwiches, Southwest bacon burger, flat breads, sandwiches, wings, and Atlantic salmon."
The kitchen strives to get every order out within 6 minutes, Matz said.
It’s another way this long-time restaurant owner is finding ways to increase revenue and expand his customer base.
"We also have a loyalty program for customers who try every brand of beer we carry," Matz said. "They get one point for each craft beer they drink; one customer has sampled more than 2,000 brands. But we don’t recommend this be done during business meetings," Matz jokes.
