Stafford County officials joined students on Wednesday to break ground on the County's sixth high school to be built on Truslow Road.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Stafford County's sixth public high school is now officially under construction after a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday.
Local students attended the ceremony along with county officials, school board members, county supervisors, and construction workers.
The new school is scheduled to open to students in August 2026, Stafford County Public Schools said in a news release. It is the first new public school in the county since 2008, officials noted.

"We appreciate the Stafford County Board of Supervisors and the Stafford community for their support of High School 6, and we are tremendously excited to have hosted the official groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction of this project,” Stafford County School Board Chair Susan Randall said. “This is an exciting time for the county, and I cannot wait to welcome students into this new facility.”
The new high school will host approximately 2,150 students when it opens for the 2026-27 school year. One of the most prominent features of the new school will be its theater, which officials hope will host regional drama competitions.

"We are not only addressing growth through construction of High School 6, we are also addressing the need for modern facilities capable of providing amenities that align with our students’ educational interests,” Stafford Schools Superintendent Thomas Taylor said. “While this is a great start, we have a long way to go. I thank our Board of Supervisors for not only including High School 6 as a priority, but also for approving construction of two new elementary schools in the near future."
Stafford County awarded a $139,334,000 contract to Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. for the project.
