FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Two drivers were arrested on DUI charges in separate July 4 incidents in Fredericksburg, according to police.
In the first case, an officer saw a Kia minivan traveling the wrong way on Princess Anne Street near Lafayette Boulevard on July 4, police said. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued driving the wrong way before stopping in the 800 block of Princess Anne Street.
After an investigation, police arrested the driver, Michael Ajibade, 44, of Fairborn, Georgia, on charges of DUI and eluding. He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held on a $3,500 bond.
Ajibade is scheduled to be arraigned 8:30 a.m. on July 16 in Fredericksburg General District Court, according to court records.
Ajibade was additionally charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way highway, which is a traffic infraction, and drinking while driving with an open container, which is a Class 4 misdemeanor, according to court records. He was released on a summons.
In a separate case, another Fredericksburg officer responded to a crash involving a vehicle that struck a structure in the 1200 block of Emancipation Highway, police said.
The officer found a gray Volkswagen with heavy front-end damage after it crashed into the business. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested on a DUI charge.

A member of the Fredericksburg Police Department’s Law Enforcement Phlebotomy program responded to assist with evidence collection, police said.
The driver, Jose Cruz-Mendoza, 59, of Fredericksburg, was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held on a $1,500 bond.
Cruz-Mendoza was charged with DUI, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor. He is also scheduled to be arraigned 8:30 a.m. on July 16 in Fredericksburg General District Court.
