FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Spotsylvania man was arrested Tuesday after police said he sped past an officer on Emancipation Highway and later crashed in Spotsylvania County.
On Tuesday, a Fredericksburg officer was clearing a traffic stop on Emancipation Highway when he saw a vehicle pass at a high rate of speed, according to police. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not pull over and continued at speeds estimated to exceed 100 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said.
The officer ended the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle, according to police. A short time later, the vehicle and driver were found after a crash in the 10000 block of Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania County.
Police said the officer from Fredericksburg responded to the crash scene and took custody of the driver, who denied being injured.
