FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 17-year-old Fredericksburg resident faces multiple firearm-related charges after police say he was found carrying a handgun shortly after reports of shots fired in a city neighborhood late Sunday.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, the city's E-911 Center received a report of shots fired at approximately 11:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Ivanhoe Court.
An officer arrived at the scene about three minutes later and began searching the area on foot. While patrolling the 100 block of Hickok Circle, the officer encountered a male dressed in all-black clothing and wearing a black ski mask. Police said the individual was walking away from the direction of the reported gunfire and appeared to be holding the left side of his waistband.
Police said the officer ordered the individual to stop. According to authorities, the suspect reached into his waistband and threw a firearm beneath a nearby vehicle before he was taken into custody without incident. A second officer arrived to assist and recovered the handgun.

Investigators said the suspect initially refused to identify himself but was later identified as a 17-year-old Fredericksburg resident by his parents.
The juvenile was transported to the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.
No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with the incident.
