• Riverside's Sweeney Todd serves dessert, then the razors (potomaclocal.com) — Fredericksburg theatergoers can catch a seven-week run of "Sweeney Todd" at Riverside Center for the Performing Arts on Riverside Parkway, where dinner service shares the room with the show's famously bloody thrills. Cast members describe an immersive experience, from a trapdoor barber chair to actors moving among the tables. Performances run through Oct. 25 with evening and matinee options and separate pricing for tickets and dinner.
• Fredericksburg Area Museum names Svetlana Legetic president & CEO (fredericksburgfreepress.com) — Fredericksburg residents have a new leader at the Fredericksburg Area Museum, as local resident Svetlana Legetic steps in as president and CEO after a national search. She plans to deepen the museum's role as a community gathering place while the board thanks interim leader Clarissa Sanders. The museum will also welcome families for a free Halloween Open House on Oct. 31 in downtown Fredericksburg.
• A dogged pursuit: Puppy's adoption marks 10,000 rescues for Old Dominion Humane Society (fredericksburgfreepress.com) — A Fredericksburg-area animal rescue milestone just arrived, as Old Dominion Humane Society celebrated its 10,000th dog adoption with Ripley, a Great Pyrenees puppy placed in a loving home. Founded in 2013 by Chrissy Hamilton, the group now saves about 1,200 dogs a year from neglectful situations. Its work has turned a few crates and a dream into a major local lifeline for at-risk dogs and adoptive families.
