Autopsy: Man Killed Wife, Daughter Then Self In Spotsylvania

Following autopsies on family members found dead in their home in Spotsylvania, police say a man shot his wife and daughter, then himself.

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — Following autopsies on three family members found shot dead in their home Sunday afternoon in the 7900 block of Waterford Drive, authorities have determined that Robert Scully, 69, shot his wife, Mary Scully, 68, and his daughter Meghan Scully, 38, before killing himself, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

Investigators don't know what led to the shootings, according to police. "We just don't know and we may never know," Spotsylvania Sheriff's Lt. C.A. Carey told the Free Lance-Star. "Sometimes people just snap for reasons that just aren't clear.

Around 3:30 p.m., police went to the home after a neighbor reported see the family dog running loose in the neighborhood and saw a door to the home partially open. Police entered the residence and found the bodies, as well as the suspected murder weapon.
