The Bluemont Concert Series is celebrating 40 years of performances this summer! Come and see Furnace Mountain on Saturday, July 30th for the fourth of seven Fredericksburg summer concerts. The concert begins at 7:30 PM. All Saturday evening concerts take place at Maury School Stadium, located at the intersection of Hanover Street and Kenmore Avenue in historic Fredericksburg.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and a picnic to enjoy before the show. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and seniors, $2 for kids under 12; proceeds go to support Bluemont’s year-round Artist-in-Education program in area schools. As at all Bluemont concerts, no pets, alcohol or smoking are allowed. In case of bad weather, the concerts will be held at James Monroe High School. All are welcome to these family oriented events.
Furnace Mountain consists of Dave Van Deventer on Fiddle and Vocals, Morgan Morrison on Bouzouki and Vocals, Aimee Curl on Bass and Vocals, Danny Knicely on Mandolin, and includes transient members Zach Lester or Bodhran, and John Flower on Washtub. The band has graced stages near and far, from the Yangtzee River in China to the banks of the Shenandoah River, where they host the famous Watermelon Park Fest each year. The music of Furnace Mountain is at times lively and raucous, with spirited fiddle melodies weaving in and around the powerful rhythms of the bass and bouzouki. It is at other times poignant and poetic, with sublime vocal harmonies beautifully interpreting some of the oldest songs ever written.
