Is it the weekend yet? I am counting down the hours until Saturday. We (the family) will be making the little road trip south to Richmond to give our girls their first experience at the Circus. Ringling Brothers is in town and we decided that it would be a great family thing to go. I have hyped the kids up about all the wonderful things they will get to see, clowns, elephants, tigers, the whole 9 yards. So the excitement has been growing for about a week. The younger two need the "how many more sleeps until" method for figuring out that life isnt just about yesterday, today or tomorrow. One twin even uses the word "lasterday" to describe something that may have happened yesterday, last week or last year. But to the circus we will go. I only hope that they will have these memories when they start their own families and pass them along. I can almost smell and see the same sights I saw as a young child going to the circus.
It is us as parents that teach our chidren the way of the world. With so many outside influances on them, my wish to my girls is that I have only given them memories to cherish but that I have taught them right from wrong. Of course somedays, I get told "you are a mean mean mommy." And my response is generally, "I am not mean because I want to be but because I love you." That usually makes them give me a dumbfounded look and continue on with the chaos that is our life.
With our oldest, who is 9 going on 19, I like to do the whole "Oh I used to love that show when I was your age" type of comparison. Once while and episode of Saved By The Bell was on, I did just that and her response was "Wow they had swimming pools in the olden days!!" Really kid?!?!?! Just how old do you think I am? I am not making you watch black and white shows! But such is the innocence of a child.

If only I had started writing down things they would say earlier. Twin B has declared that she is moving to California because moms in California wear bikinis! Twin A is determined that she will make a life as a princess and marry her daddy and always live with us. The oldest is just so involved in the iPod touch and her new highlights that I doubt she would notice if the house came down around her!
These are the memories that I love. We have some great ones. I am interested to hear, what are some of your fondest childhood memories that you have carried over with your own children/ What funny things do your children say that you will carry with your for a life-time?
