Patching Together a Blog
Thanks to the hard work of people like Dan and the other Patch bloggers, there's no better place for local Fredericksburg news and diverse points of view on a variety of interesting topics.
With the rampant power outages and serious inconveniences hitting many of our neighbors, I thought I'd take a break from my semi-serious political blogging and write something a little lighter. I've always wanted to write a current events blog, but have never really wanted to burn the calories to do so for a few reasons. I think the biggest key to having a successful blog site is updating content on a regular basis, which is difficult for me because I'm not inspired to write every day. I suppose I could write a blog yelling about how Obama's health care plan is the greatest thing in the history of ever, or how the country will spiral into communism unless we elect Mitt Romney in November. I could talk about how gun rights are merely a suggestion in the Constitution, or how I think the team of State Senator Bryce Reeves and Legislative Ninja Ashley Nixon are the greatest public servants Virginia have ever seen. Or maybe I could do a hard-hitting expose on how Tim Kaine, George Allen, or even Tim Allen is the only possible choice to lead Virginia into the 21st century and beyond. These are the types of articles that get dozens of comments, thousands of viewers, and get people excited. But I always think that's too simple and have no real interest in writing that blog.
The blog I've always wanted to write tries to find a different voice and a different point of view on current events in Virginia. I think I've done so, and I think the Patch does an excellent job of providing a home for myself and similar bloggers. I also enjoy reading other blogs that provide something different than the usual like Linda's small business blog, Megan's Freedom of Information blog, T.J.'s movie reviews (although I have no real desire to see Magic Mike), the art blog, and I think there was one about dog training a while back (I don't have a dog, but I like the idea). No, you won't find a couple hundred people saying the exact same thing ranting about how Adam Carolla said women aren't funny, or whatever other semi-famous person said that offended some people.
Thanks to the hard work of people like Dan and the other Patch bloggers, there's no better place for local Fredericksburg news and diverse points of view on a variety of interesting topics. This makes coming up with topics far more difficult, but I think it leads to a much more interesting product all around.

On that note: a quick preview of this week's blogs from me. Probably Tuesday or Wednesday I have final thoughts on the UVA BOV situation and ask why Governor McDonnell tried to turn critiques of Rector Dragas into gendered ones while ignoring the gendered critiques of President Sullivan, and around the end of the week I'm planning on writing my thoughts on why the Tea Party should and will give their full-throated support to Mitt Romney.
Thanks all, and hopefully everyone gets their power back as soon as possible. We didn't lose power here in Spotsylvania, but I'm planning on heading to The Home Depot to get a backup generator hooked up anyway.
