Waiting for Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is roaring up the coast, and I’m just waiting for it to hit Virginia. There’s always anticipation waiting for a hurricane.

I lived on the coast of North Carolina for ten years and waited for many hurricanes. It’s a process. Securing all possible flying objects. Tightening the freezer for unlimited time without power. Making sure anything I need to do on the electrical end (wash, vacuuming, ironing, cooking, etc.) is complete before that unlimited time without power.

Yeah, I’ve been through it. I don’t sweat it. I know I’ve got at least another day  -- unless it picks up steam.

So while I sit here and wait -- no way am I going to the store for batteries or milk. You know, I never understood the milk thing; if the power goes out, the milk goes sour.  Anyway, while I sit here and wait, I decided it was time to make art. What better way to prepare. I mean, who knows, there’s the possibility of unlimited days without power and I know the computer will be dead.

Two weeks ago, I participated in Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. On October 13, 32,000 people gathered in various cities and towns around the world and walked and shot and made new friends.

I chose one of the walks in the Richmond area, deciding on the Manchester area for the opportunity to create a few new black and white pieces. To my surprise, I ended up with more color than I ever anticipated. But what really excited me is I ended up with images that I could make into art

So it’s been a fun day waiting for Hurricane Sandy. With that, I’ll leave you to view the images of the Worldwide Photo Walk.
