Why Are Local Wedding Venues Suggesting Vendors Outside Our Area?

There's a trend I'm noticing. A number of local wedding venues are recommending mostly out-of-town vendors on their preferred vendor list.  The question is why?

The Fredericksburg area has highly qualified professional vendors.  Bridal shows, open houses and weddings I've attended have all been filled with our very own local business professionals, ready to assist brides with all the details they need and want for a fabulous wedding. 

Using local businesses generally costs less, as they don't have to factor in mileage.  We have delicious caterers, excellent photographers, bakeries and so on.

So the question remains: Why are local venues suggesting vendors from outside our area to our local brides? 

As I explore more behind this troubling trend, I have a few words of advice for brides.

For all vendors:

• Do your homework.  Check their websites/Facebook pages. 
• Ask family and friends for vendors they have used.
• Ask for at least three references and call them.
