YARD ART

The joys of yard work (a photographer's perspective).

My SO nurtures our yard like a mother nurtures her child. He feeds it. He controls its environment. He works on its development. I'm sure if it had a diaper to change he'd do that too.

I tell you this because every spring our yard is a blank canvas waiting to happen.
I decided I wanted to shoot this morning, but I really didn't want to venture out. I-95 has been a nightmare since Friday and with today being the last day of spring break, I wasn't about to jump on the blacktop and join the crazies on the Indy 95.

So to the yard it was. I've been watching it. I've been waiting for flowers to open. I even walked it last evening to see what was happening. This morning I changed the lens, made sure the card was empty and proceeded to break one of the first rules of photography (there are many first rules). I didn't check my camera settings. Bypassed the ISO and completely blanked out on white balance. Well, fortunately the ISO was set properly from the last shoot, but the white balance was set for incandescent light (and I'm not quite sure how that happened). Not good when you're shooting outdoors.

I had two choices. Re-shoot and hope to get the same images (I liked the composition of the images) or make art. Well, with the wonders of post processing software, you can pretty much do anything to a photo. Even save it from improper white balance settings. And while I was able to transform the photos into daylight settings, I still wasn't happy with the outcome.

Therefore, I made art.

I even captured my first butterfly.

Happy Shooting
