Budget-Friendly Thanksgiving Meal Grocery Store Deals In VA

Grocery store chains and big-box retailers are offering Thanksgiving meal deals and rolling back prices this holiday season.

VIRGINIA — Aldi, Walmart, Wegman's and other grocery store chains and big-box retailers in Virginia are offering meal deals and rolling back prices to offset the impact of inflation on Thanksgiving dinner.

Amazon Fresh is among the companies offering Thanksgiving promotions to help customers stretch their budgets this holiday season. Through Nov. 28, customers in more than 1,200 cities and towns can visit Amazon Fresh online or in-store for deals on Thanksgiving dinner essentials.

"This season, Amazon Fresh customers don't have to choose between saving money and honoring their favorite Thanksgiving meal traditions," Claire Peters, vice president of Amazon Fresh, said in a statement.

The company is offering a meal bundle that will feed six people for less than $30. The selections include Butterball turkeys at $0.49 per pound, as well as Amazon private label brand sides and desserts. Those include instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, gravy mix, canned corn and green beans, canned cranberries, dinner rolls and pies.

Amazon Fresh is also offering a variety of seasonal items and additional deals throughout November on the Amazon Fresh Thanksgiving page, including Amazon Fresh pies for $4.99 for Prime members and baking essentials for under $5 for all customers. Additionally, customers can get 30% off Thanksgiving staples, plus an additional 10% off for Prime members.

Here's a look at other budget-friendly Thanksgiving meal deals stores are offering in Virginia:

Aldi

Aldi, which has 74 locations in Virginia, is offering its lowest-priced Thanksgiving meal in five years, according to the discount grocery chain. The full spread for 10 people is priced at $47 or $4.70 per person.

The Thanksgiving meal deal includes a Butterball turkey with spices, gravy, rolls, mac and cheese, stuffing, plus the ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.

Lidl

Lidl, which has several locations in Virginia, is competing with Aldi for the most budget-friendly Thanksgiving meal. Lidl’s Thanksgiving Meal, which serves 10 people, costs $45 — or $4.50 per person. The bundle, available through Nov. 27, includes turkey, stuffing, gravy, rolls, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and the ingredients to make sweet potato and green bean casseroles, and pumpkin pie.

Giant Food

To help its customers get Thanksgiving dinner on the table for less this year, Giant Food announced a meal deal for Choice Rewards members that claims it will feed six people for under $20. Through Nov. 28, rewards members can redeem 400 Choice points for a free turkey and round out their meal by shopping Extended Bonus Buys for items like vegetables, gravy and stuffing.

Wegman's

Wegman's is offering Thanksgiving meal deals that will feed eight people for less than $6 per person. According to the grocer's website, the deal includes a turkey, gravy mix, stuffing mix, onions, celery, chicken stock, dinner rolls, corn muffin mix, canned corn, canned green beans, cranberry sauce, french fried onions, cream of mushroom soup, potatoes, yams and a pumpkin pie.

Sam's Club

Sam's Club members can save money and time this Thanksgiving. The big box retailer is offering a fully-cooked Thanksgiving feast for under $100.

This year's Member's Mark Thanksgiving meal feeds up to 10 people and can be delivered directly to member's homes in under three hours. The meal, which is less than $10 per person, is ready to heat and serve in two hours, according to the company. It includes a hickory-smoked turkey, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potato mash, brussels sprouts, cranberry crunch salad, dinner rolls and a pumpkin pie.

Target

Target is lowering the price of its popular Thanksgiving meal this year. The $20 dinner is $5 less than last year's offering, according to the retailer.

The meal, which serves four, includes a frozen Good & Gather brand turkey, a bag of potatoes, green beans, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of cranberry sauce, stuffing mix and a bottle of turkey gravy.

Walmart

Walmart is bringing back its "inflation-free" Thanksgiving meal at a lower price than last year, according to the retailer. This year's meal, which is available through Dec. 24, comes with a spread of 29 items that serves eight people for less than $7 per plate.

The bundle includes a frozen turkey, canned corn, canned green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, celery, a can of cranberry sauce, a can of cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, crispy fried onions, corn muffin mix, gravy mix, Hawaiian rolls, pecan pie, whipped topping, pie crust, pumpkin puree, evaporated milk and mini marshmallows. The meal deal can be purchased in-store and online for pick-up or delivery.
