1. Fredericksburg Fire Department Open House Postponed Due To Weather (patch.com) — Families in Fredericksburg will have to wait one more week for the Fire Department's popular open house, which has been pushed from Oct. 11 to Oct. 18 due to expected bad weather. The free event at Fire Station 1 on Princess Anne Street will feature equipment displays, demonstrations, and activities for all ages, with exact hours still to be confirmed.

2. Fredericksburg will wait on a new CFO before it tightens board travel (potomaclocal.com) — Fredericksburg's School Board is holding off on tightening its travel rules until a new chief financial officer is hired, despite a review that flagged improper use of division purchase cards and pricey conference travel. The audit recommends issuing cards in members' names, requiring agreements and receipts, and banning personal charges. For now, the board has only updated its norms and protocols.

3. Fredericksburg District Weekly Traffic Alert: Oct. 11-17, 2026 (virginia.gov) — Expect significant lane closures and changing traffic patterns around Fredericksburg next week, especially on Route 1, Route 3, Cowan Boulevard and I-95 near Exit 126. VDOT details overnight bridge inspections, pavement marking, and long-term construction projects that will affect commutes across the Fredericksburg District, including Spotsylvania and Stafford. Plan alternate routes and extra travel time if you drive these corridors regularly.

4. Skanska to Build New UMW Theater and Dance Facility (wconline.com) — A major new theater and dance complex is coming to the University of Mary Washington's Fredericksburg campus, bringing a 293-seat performance hall and extensive upgrades to existing fine arts buildings. Skanska will phase construction so classes and performances can continue, while also improving parking, drop-off areas, pedestrian connections, and building systems across the arts district.
