Catlett Selected To Lead Fredericksburg Schools: Report
Marceline Catlett will be the first African-American to lead Fredericksburg City Schools.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg City Public School Board last night selected Marceline "Marci" Catlett as division superintendent. Catlett, who attended Fredericksburg schools prior to nationwide integration, is the division's first African-American superintendent, according to a report.
Catlett was the division's deputy superintendent. She was chosen to serve as interim superintendent after David Melton retired in June, the Free Lance-Star reports. Catlett has spent her entire career with Fredericksburg schools.
Catlett was born and raised in Fredericksburg. She was sworn in Wednesday night and started her new role with a four-year contract.

In October, the board selected six superintendent candidates from a pool of 34 applicants. Catlett was among the six candidates. Her appointment was unanimous among school board members, though Malvina Kaye abstained because Catlett is her sister.
