City Warns Residents To Avoid Two Streams and Rappahannock
Officials: Broken sewer main has released raw wastewater into river.

Fredericksburg city officials are urging residents and their pets to stay away from two local streams and part of the Rappahannock River due to an accidental sewage leak.
A broken sewer main was discovered Sunday night along Smith Run in the vicinity of the Residences of Belmont apartment complex, according to an announcement released Monday on the city’s website. As a result, raw wastewater flowed from the line into Smith Run and eventually into the Rappahannock River.
For health reasons, the city is urging all persons, including their pets, to avoid entering Smith Run and Hazel Run (from the point where Smith Run enters to the Rappahannock River) and the river itself for approximately one mile downstream from the Blue-Gray Parkway Bridge until noon Wednesday, March 25.
