Driver Attacked Good Samaritans After Crashing On I-95: Police
A driver who crashed his Mercedes on I-95 in Stafford County assaulted two people who tried to help him on Wednesday, authorities said.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA —A driver crashed his car on Interstate 95 on Wednesday afternoon before assaulting two Good Samaritans who tried to help in Stafford County, authorities said.
The driver and the two people who tried to help were injured. They were all taken to Mary Washington Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
Virginia State Police officials identified the driver as 29-year-old Kevin Wood, Jr. of Fredericksburg. He is charged with driving under the influence, attempted murder, strangulation, and malicious wounding.

Authorities have not announced any criminal charges in connection with the crash or the assault. Officials with Virginia State Police and the Stafford County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.
The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday near mile marker 135. Investigators said a Mercedes sedan was travelling southbound when it left the right side of the highway, struck a guard rail, and overturned.

Two other drivers saw what happened and stopped to help, Virginia State Police said in a report. As they approached the crashed car, the Mercedes driver exited the vehicle and assaulted them.
Stafford County deputies noted that one of the people who tried to help was a Metro Washington Airports Authority officer. Deputies said the Mercedes driver continued to resist as they took him into custody.
Authorities said more information would be released as it becomes available.
