Ebenezer Church Hosts 12th Annual Go For Bo

Each fall, the Go For Bo 5K, 1-Mile Fun Run and Tot Dash brings our local community together to support the community of Bo in Sierra Leone. The event benefits the lifesaving work of Helping Children Worldwide (HCW), a Virginia-based non-profit that provides education, healthcare, and economic empowerment to children and families in one of the poorest nations in the world. This year’s Go For Bo race will take off at a new time and location. Runners of all ages are invited to “Glow” for Bo in a sunset run at Stafford Regional Airport at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17.

HCW was formed in 2003, after a decade-long civil war in Sierra Leone destroyed communities and left thousands of children homeless. When Rev. John K. Yambasu requested help from his counterparts in the United States, 15 churches - including Ebenezer Church in Stafford - established a lasting partnership to strengthen the families of Sierra Leone and help them escape the cycle of poverty. Today, HCW provides education and child welfare services through its Child Reintegration Centre, healthcare and outreach through Mercy Hospital, and community empowerment through its Village Partnership Program.

Ebenezer Church launched the first Go For Bo in 2011. Now in its 12th year, the event offers a unique opportunity to race the runway at Stafford Regional Airport. The airport complex will open at 5:00 p.m. with music, a food truck, and special activities for kids. Against the backdrop of the setting sun, the Tot Dash will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the 1-Mile Fun Run at 6:05 p.m. and the 5K at 6:30 p.m. Registration is now open at goforbo.org: $20 for the Tot Dash, $22 for the 1-Mile Fun Run, and $25 for the 5K.
