Fashion Friday: My Current Obsessions

Do you ever get stuck in a fashion rut?  If yes, then welcome to the club.  Let’s do lunch and figure out how to get out of this together. You can find me in the peplum section.  If I’m not there, try the denim & floral section.  If somehow you miss me there, you’ll definitely find me browsing the Bermudas.

Peplum:  I love it.  The last three dresses that have come home with me are peplum.  And, I really don’t wear dresses very often.  In the last month, I have more pictures of me wearing peplum tops than anything else.  My black peplum skirt?  One of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. It’s becoming such a “signature” look for me that I recently found a little box on my front porch…an amazing gift from my sweet mom: a gorgeous white peplum dress (see photo above).  She lives 700 miles away and knows that this dress “just looks like me.”  It’s an addiction that I just am not ready to part ways with, perhaps never.  “Hi, my name is Michelle, and I’m addicted to peplum.”  Have you tried it yet?  If no, I encourage you to run to the nearest retailer, and try it.  I seriously haven’t found one person who doesn’t look great in it. If perhaps, that is you (don’t look great in it), please call me.  I need to know.  Until then, long live peplum.

Denim & Floral:  When I’m not in peplum, chances are you’ll find me in some sort of denim and floral pairing.  My next video blog will cover how to wear denim and floral. It’s easy, effortless and foolproof.  Some examples of what I’ve done with this trendy duo: a bright-yellow floral maxi dress topped with a denim vest; a colorful pleated floral skirt with a basic T-shirt and a denim jacket (sleeves rolled, of course), and denim skinnies with a flowy, floral blouse.  It’s fresh and I love it together.

Bermuda Shorts:  Considering that I had a ‘no shorts’ rule (just for me), only a short year ago, it’s truly amazing that I have fallen so hard and so quickly with the classic Bermuda short.  Maybe it’s the longer length.  Perhaps the laidback vibe.  Not sure what suckered me in, but… I LOVE BERMUDA SHORTS!  They look great casual with a tank and flip-flops.  Dress them up and add a blazer over a white T, and a low heel.  Go to lunch at your favorite Fredericksburg bistro with a pair of white Bermudas and a colorful tunic and strappy sandals.  They can go anywhere, well, almost.
