Fashion Friday: Tips for a More-Organized Closet

I am interested in knowing how many of us are actually proud of and happy with the current state of our closets?  I will be the first to admit that mine is not where I want it, but it's getting closer.  Here are some very simple tips that I have discovered make a big difference:

  1. Velvet Hangars---#1 tip, by far!  They protect your fragile sweaters, don't put unwanted creases in the shoulders of your tops, and keep tank tops in their place.  Extra bonus--they're thin so you can pack more clothes into your space. I like to purchase mine (by big box-full) at Costco or Marshall's.
  2. Hanging Jewelry Organizer--get your accessories out of the drawers, decorative boxes, etc. so that you can see them.  My organizer hangs on the back of the closet door, and has made a huge difference when I'm ready to accessorize my outfits.
  3. Shoe Racks--even if you have the clear boxes or a photo attached to the box, there is nothing better than organizing your shoes on an open rack.  I found mine at Costco and I can tell you that since I made this investment, I wear more of my shoes!
  4. Organization--switch out your closet by season, then organize by type (tanks, t-shirts, dressy blouses, skirts, pants, etc) and then color within each type.  When I am looking for a cami to wear under my blazer, I know right where to go and see my options in one place.
I hope that these simple tips help you organize your wardrobe and enable you to get out the door more quickly and more fashionably.  Do you have a tip that you'd like to share?  Please tell us in the comment section--I'd love to hear from you.
