SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A man died in a motorcycle crash in Spotsylvania County on Thursday, according to the sheriff's office. Police believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Deputies responded to the area of Courthouse Road and Anna Point Lane around 1 a.m. There, they found a motorcycle that struck an embankment and went off the road.
The driver was thrown from the motorcycle in the crash, police said. He died at the scene.

Through an investigation, authorities determined that the motorcyclist was driving westbound on Courthouse Road. Police said the motorcycle was travelling at a high speed when it entered a curve and hit the embankment.
In its report, the sheriff's office said that speed and alcohol factored into the crash.

Authorities identified the motorcyclist as James William Segrue, a 39-year-old from Spotsylvania.
