Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Spotsylvania Investigated By State Police

Virginia State Police investigators are looking into a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist on Route 3 in Spotsylvania on Saturday.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A crash on Route 3 in Spotsylvania County killed a motorcycle rider on Saturday night, according to Virginia State Police.

Police identified the motorcyclist as 21-year-old Domonique L. Johnson from Fredericksburg. He died at the scene, according to the police report.

The people in another car that was involved in the crash were not injured.

Virginia State Police investigators said Johnson's motorcycle was speeding eastbound on Route 3 near Market Street around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday night. Johnson was in the left lane when he swerved to avoid slower traffic, police said.

After swerving, Johnson collided with a 2019 Chevy Traverse that was travelling in the right westbound lane, according to authorities. The impact threw Johnson from his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle.

Police officials said Johnson was wearing a helmet, but he died at the scene. There were four people in the Traverse during the crash. They were all wearing seatbelts and none of them were injured, according to the police report.
