Fight Leads To Assault On Police Charges For Fredericksburg Man
Fredericksburg police determined that one of the suspects in a fight between two men had outstanding arrests warrants, authorities say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 21-year-old Fredericksburg man is facing multiple weapon and assault on law enforcement officer charges following an altercation with another man on Sunday, according to authorities.
Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department were dispatched to investigate the report of a fight between two men in the 300 block of Riverside Manor Boulevard, according to police. They found one of the men still at the scene, but the second man had fled the area on foot.
The officers located the second suspect, identified as Josiah Gross of Fredericksburg, at a nearby gas station.

"While attempting to interview Gross about the argument, it was determined he had outstanding warrants for his arrest," according to the incident report. "Upon trying to detain Gross, he resisted officers and attempted to flee. Additional officers arrived on scene to assist. Gross spat on officers as he was being taken into custody. Two firearms and a large quantity of marijuana was seized from Gross upon arrest."
Gross was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, three counts of assault and battery on law enforcement, and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, according to police.

Police also served Gross three warrants from Spotsylvania for vandalism and assault of a family, as well as two warrants from Fredericksburg for shoplifting and underage possession of alcohol, according to the report. Additional gun-related and drug charges are pending lab results.
Gross is scheduled to be arraigned in Fredericksburg General District Court at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 19, according to court records. He was released on his own recognizance.
In addition, Gross is scheduled to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 20, in Spotsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations court, according to court records.
The three charges Gross is facing in Spotsylvania are Class 1 misdemeanors and stem from an incident that occurred Aug. 9, 2024, according to court records.
