Food Day Celebration Comes to Fredericksburg

A Food Day celebration is coming to Fredericksburg! Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward sustainable, affordable, and healthy food that builds all year long and culminates in a day of action on October 24 each year. Groups around the Fredericksburg area are planning events of all sizes to mark this important day.

Food Day is an excellent opportunity to celebrate food programs, highlight the importance of healthy eating and cooking, or announce a new food initiative. It’s also an occasion to unite businesses, community members, and organizations to discuss how our community can work together to combat food insecurity and improve public health.

Food Day is supported by hundreds of national groups and organizations, including the American Public Health Association, National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, National WIC Association, National Education Association, Earth Day Network, and many more.

Last year, community volunteers organized more than 3,200 events in all 50 states to celebrate Food Day; the 2012 Campaign Report has more detailed information and highlighted events.

If you are interested in learning how you and your organization might participate in the Food Day effort this year, plan to attend an interest and planning meeting on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Dorothy Hart Community Center from 10am-11am. RSVP to pgayleprice@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
