FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Central Rappahannock Regional Library system is making plans to reopen its library branches and will start with providing patrons with computer access and printing in the next few weeks. Patrons will then soon be able to enter the buildings to browse the collections and check out materials, the library system said Wednesday.

However, classes and events will continue to be held virtually, and meeting rooms will not be available to the public. Occupancy and hours will be limited and patrons will be required to wear masks. Other changes will be implemented to prioritize patron and staff safety, CRRL said.

Patrons will still be able to place items on hold and collect them through curbside pickup. Since curbside pickup began July 8, patrons have placed 33,800 holds. As of Sept. 7, staff had checked out 43,910 items to 4,289 patrons. According to the library system, 142,810 items were returned between July 10 and Sept. 9.

On Wednesday, CRRL began offering expanded customer service by telephone. Library staff can answer research questions, including providing reading recommendations, and answer questions about services such as curbside pickup, return of items, and downloading eBooks and eAudios.
