Fredericksburg Initiative To Help Veterans Recover From Trauma
The Fredericksburg Area Military Service Initiative was created by a Fredericksburg surgeon.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A new initiative created by a Fredericksburg surgeon seeks to provide continued support to veterans recovering from trauma, as well as their families. Dr. Mike Cherwek, who, according to reports, ran the city's longest continually operating cardiology practice, is behind the venture called the Fredericksburg Area Military Service Initiative.
Cherwek created the initiative to provide continued emotional and physical healing support for service members to assist in their transition back into the civilian community, the Free Lance-Star reports. The initiative is a fund to which individuals may contribute, which then supports other inclusive, veteran-focused programs through grants.
Among these programs is Project Healing Waters, which uses fly fishing and connecting with nature to help veterans. Cherwek originally was involved with Project Healing Waters before he turned his attention to the Fredericksburg initiative, reports say.
