Fredericksburg Issues Last Call For Memorial Day Photos

Photos for Fredericksburg's virtual Memorial Day event must be submitted to the city by Tuesday, May 18.​

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The city of Fredericksburg is asking for photos of people who residents will be remembering on Memorial Day. The photos will be shared on Fredericksburg's social media channels, YouTube and its public access television channels.

This year's Memorial Day ceremony in the city will be virtual due to the coronavirus crisis. Photos for Fredericksburg's virtual Memorial Day event must be submitted by Tuesday, May 18.

"We won’t be able to go up on the hill at the National Cemetery the way we usually do. But we are doing some great things this year," Tim Duffy, a member of the Fredericksburg City Council for Ward 3 and the principal of James Monroe High School, said in a video statement.

Duffy said Memorial Day is so important to him because it impacts many of the students he teaches and the families with whom he works in Fredericksburg. "I'll certainly be thinking of all the people who sacrifice so much to help us be where we are today on Memorial Day," Duffy said.

Residents should provide the following information with the photos they submit: service member name; branch of service; and year entering and year leaving the military.

Photos can be scanned and emailed to darose@fredericksburgva.gov or mailed to: Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA 22041. If mailing, residents should protect their photos inside the envelope and include a return address so the city can mail the photo back to them.
