About Fredericksburg Roller Derby:
Fredericksburg Roller Derby (FRD) was formed for the purposes of training for and competing in the sport of Roller Derby, at an amateur level in National and International competitions. We follow the rules and regulations developed and maintained by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association or mutually agreed upon rules for the purpose of tournament play. Fredericksburg Roller Derby was established in July of 2011 under the name Five 40 Roller Girls. With local ties to the community, FRD selects a local charity on an annual basis that they support with proceeds from home games or volunteered time. To date the league has donated over $5,000 to local charities such as Hope House, Fredericksburg SPCA, and the Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault (RCASA).
About the WFTDA:
The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association is the governing body for women’s flat-track roller derby, and a membership organization for the leagues to collaborate and network. The organization created and maintained the first standardized rule set for the flat-track game, now in its fourth edition. The WFTDA also serves as the sanctioning body for games, hosts tournaments, sets safety standards and provides insurance to athletes and leagues. There are currently 234 WFTDA member leagues and more than 111 apprentice leagues worldwide.
