FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The City of Fredericksburg is studying whether a malfunctioning traffic signal near Hurkamp Park in downtown Fredericksburg should be repaired or can be decommissioned and replaced with another mode of traffic control. The signal cable and equipment at the intersection of Prince Edward and George streets is beyond repair, the city said Thursday.

Fredericksburg's City Works Department has set the traffic signal to flashing red on both the Prince Edward and George streets approaches. The city also added temporary stop signs to the intersection.

The city is working with Kimley-Horn consultants to study what to do for traffic control at the intersection and hopes to have an update in the next month. Contact the city's Public Works Department at 540-372-1023 for more information about the city's plans for the intersection.
