What was the environment like?

When you walk in, all the 3D work was in the center of the room which filled in the negative space. The work was grouped by composition or color which turned out fun in an interactive way which forced people to look at other people’s work. It also encouraged artists to talk to each other and step outside their usual groups. For me it was fun to group artists with different styles which had nothing similar other than the same hues.

Was it hard to place the black and white groups?

No it actually worked really well when I put the vibrant color groups in between the three different black and white groups. I also found out that yellow goes great next to black and white.

What works did you have in the show?

I had some charcoal sketches, digital photography, acrylic paintings, and mixed media made with pebeo paints. Luckily this show gave a lot of freedom and gave me a lot of leeway on sizes and material.

How many works were shown total?

There was a total of 210 pieces in the show. Everything from skateboards, collaborative pieces, husband and wife collaboration.

How was the turnout?

It was average for the opening show, but it was a lot higher than normal throughout the month. This was a purchaser friendly show since the pieces were not a lot of money. People don’t realize this is such a consumer nation and how our society functions with art shows.

Overall I think this show was such a big success with the idea of affordable pieces for the public especially during the holiday season. This show brought 43 very different artists and mediums under one roof and that in itself is a great accomplishment.

We thank Backdoor Gallery for the opportunity to have a unique affordable show that captures and enriches the Fredericksburg area and letting us buy a truly valuable gift for the holidays, and congratulations from the artists and the public to everyone who had helped put this show together.
