GreenDrop Celebrates Richmond Grand Opening with University of Richmond's Webstur

GreenDrop's new location on Patterson Avenue opens to Richmond community

RICHMOND, VA—October 20, 2015—Last week, GreenDrop, the organization transforming the way consumers donate lightly used clothing, electronics, and household goods to support national charities, celebrated the grand opening of their newest donation center at 6919 Patterson Avenue in Richmond, Virginia.

On Wednesday, October 21, GreenDrop officially opened the doors of their Richmond location with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by University of Richmond mascot, Webstur.

In commenting on the opening, GreenDrop’s CAO, Tony Peressini said, “We aim to be a strong, positive presence in the communities we serve.” Peressini continued, ”By taking abandoned businesses, like the former yogurt shop here in Richmond, and transforming them into clean, safe, brightly lit centers, we provide consumers with a convenient way to support their favorite charities.”

In addition to helping charities raise the much-needed funds to finance their programs, GreenDrop’s drive up donation centers have quickly become the easiest way for consumers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to give back to their communities and protect the environment by diverting goods from landfills and reusing them—an initiative that supports Mayor Dwight C. Jones’ RVAGreen Sustainability Plan.

“At GreenDrop we work under one mission: Striving to do good for communities, our partner charities--the Military Order of the Purple Heart and National Federation of the Blind--and of course, the environment,” commented Samantha Kresz, Community Marketing Coordinator for GreenDrop. “That’s why we’re so excited to be welcomed by Richmond, a city that is committed to maintaining a healthy, green environment.”

GreenDrop celebrated their Richmond soft opening to warm reception in late-August, and since then local donors have quickly gravitated to the company and its mission. To show appreciation for the community’s support and generosity, GreenDrop and the University of Richmond’s Webstur offered donors the chance to win four tickets to this year’s Capital Cup during the ribbon cutting ceremony.

To date, GreenDrop has over 25 donation centers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and has raised $2.5 million on behalf of its partner charities in 2014 alone.

Operating hours for the new Richmond GreenDrop location are Monday through Friday 8 AM to 8 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM. To learn more about GreenDrop, please visit www.gogreendrop.com.

About GreenDrop

GreenDrop is transforming the way consumers support their favorite charities by donating lightly worn clothing, used electronics and household goods at conveniently located, freestanding locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

By recycling former gasoline stations and convenient stores, GreenDrop offers consumers clean, brightly lit, and safe drive-up locations where they are greeted at their car by uniformed GreenDrop attendants, who unload donations, provide tax-deductible receipts and allow consumers to direct their giving to either the Purple Heart or the National Federation of the Blind. In 2014, these charities received $2.5 million through donations to GreenDrop facilities, which are sorted and then resold at area thrift stores, sent overseas or recycled for their fibers and parts.
