Ten Thousand Villages is collecting school kits to be distributed to students in need around the world through the Mennonite Central Committee. School kits are MCC's most-requested item. Notebooks and pencils become treasures to families who struggle to afford basic school supplies. School kits also are given to refugee and displaced children, helping students and teachers add some normalcy to disrupted lives. They are frequently requested after disasters. MCC sends school kits to places including Afghanistan, Jordan and Kenya.
You can help out by contributing supplies that will help fill the useful hand-made double drawstring cloth bags that a local group of women have generously constructed to put the contents of each school kit in!
