Around 3:45 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the convenience store at 2143 Jefferson Davis Highway responded to a reported theft. The clerk said two men had just run out of the place with red baskets full of stolen goods, hopped in an SUV and headed north on Route 1. An officer in the area saw a vehicle that matched the description, hit his lights and tried to pull it over. Instead, the SUV sped up and got onto I-95 North.

The officer followed him from mile marker 143 to mile marker 152 before backing off because of increasing traffic. A Virginia State Police trooper picked up the chase at the 160 mile marker. The vehicle crashed off exit 169. The stolen good were inside.
